Try a Non-Pollute Commute and Win Great Prizes!

For immediate release: June 17, 2004

Vancouver, WA: Clark County’s Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Program is excited to announce its second annual countywide Walk&Roll campaign to be held June 21 through June 25. Walk& Roll is part of an ongoing effort to inform citizens about fun and healthy ways to commute to work while promoting clean air and Clark County’s quality of life. During the campaign, participating employers and their employees are encouraged to park their cars and experience new forms of foot-powered transportation, i.e., bicycling, walking, busing or in-line skating!

Experts recommend that adults squeeze in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day. With today’s busy schedules, however, it can be a challenge to make 30 minutes of exercise a priority. That is why CTR believes choosing a Walk & Roll commute option can help make that goal attainable. Not only will you feel more energized and refreshed, but you will save money on gas and help to keep our air clean also!

All employees who participate at least once during the Walk & Roll week will receive a sport water bottle and entrance into a worksite drawing for a deluxe combo cooler. In addition, participants will be eligible for a countywide drawing with even more great prizes! This year some of the prizes include: a Bowflex Sport machine (donated by Nautilus), an overnight stay and breakfast for two at Skamania Lodge (donated by Southwest Washington Medical Center), a Trek “Vapor” bicycle helmet (donated by The Bike Gallery), a bike tune-up (donated by GI Joe’s), gifts cards to Starbucks, Fred Meyer’s, and much more!

For those interested in combining walking or biking and the bus, C-TRAN, Clark County’s public transportation system, currently operates 26 bus routes throughout Clark County and into Portland. C-TRAN also offers C-VAN paratransit service, vanpool, and carpool matching. All C-TRAN buses are equipped with bike racks, and all C-TRAN transit centers have secure bike racks and bike lockers available.
